Finding Your Local Extension Office
Anytime I had a gardening question for my brother-in-law (who has a full acre vegetable garden), he would tell me to call my extension office and ask them. I used to think that was strange. Why couldn’t he just give me the answer? Turns out, extension offices are a great resource for your county, sharing all sorts of information that can help your garden thrive in your climate.
Why Call Your Extension Office
Extension Offices have been around for over 100 years and share local information that is research based. They can help with crop advice, soil testing, gardening tips, pest control, plant deficiencies, and even offer nutritional guidance and 4-H programs. I have used them for help with diagnosing pest problems, weed issues, and questions about my lawn care. I’ve even called them with questions about my chickens!
Extension Offices are based in different counties and draw their information from current research in that area. My brother in law lives in Utah so his extension office would tell him something different than my extension office here in Washington because we have different climates and pests. I like that they are local and know first hand the issues that other community farmers and gardeners have that may be similar to my own.

How to Find Your Extension Office
The USDA has a map that makes it easy to find your local office HERE. Click on your state and from there click on the link for the extension. Because their information is based on research, the extension offices are supported by colleges and universities. I love a good IG or TikTok gardening tip but always refer back to my extension office for solid information.
Extension.org is another great resource that shares online help and advice. You can ask a question based on your state, or search questions others have asked about certain topics and find your answer that way. Check it out HERE.
